Dental Bonding
Using tooth-colored composite resin material, our Jackson cosmetic dentists can repair minorly chipped and cracked teeth. Dental bonding also proves useful for instances where there are spaces in between teeth or irregularly shaped teeth.
Compared to veneers, the procedure is quicker and much less intensive which is great for smaller fixes.
When Is Dental Bonding Recommended?
First and foremost, the dental bonding procedure is elective, not mandatory. It is designed to enhance your smile and correct small chips, cracks, or gaps. If you have more severe tooth damage, our dentists will instead suggest restorative procedures like same-day crowns, dental fillings, or even extraction.
Bonding is also an ideal choice for patients who are self-conscious about the shape and size of their teeth as well as tooth discoloration. Our team is more than happy to examine your teeth and let you know if you’d benefit from dental bonding.
The Procedure: What to Expect
Before any teeth are treated, our dentists will start by using a handy shade guide to match the chosen composite resin material to the color of your natural teeth. Once that’s decided, each tooth set for bonding is prepared.
We’ll roughen the surface of the tooth and apply a conditioning liquid that helps the bonding material adhere properly. The tooth-colored resin material is then put on, molded, and smoothed. After our dentists have the desired shape, a special curing light is used to harden and bond the resin to your tooth’s surface.
Last minute adjustments and a quick polish cap off the bonding procedure. In total, it typically takes about 30-60 minutes per tooth.
