Dental Implants
Replacing missing teeth has never looked so natural! Dental implants are artificial tooth roots made of titanium that are surgically embedded into your jawbone by our Jackson, MI, dentists for added stability.
After they are inserted and given time to heal, the screw-like post is topped with a dental crown for the final look.
Procedure Details
Our dentists want you to know from the start that the entire dental implant process will take a few months to complete. This is due to the time that’s needed for proper healing after the implant has been inserted. Whether you need a bone graft will also affect how long everything takes.
If the bone in your jaw is sufficient, our dentists will have you come into our Jackson dental office so we can start the dental implant surgery. We’ll place the titanium post into your jawbone and allow ample time afterwards for it to heal. The implant, over the span of weeks, will fuse with the bone as the area heals. This is called osseointegration.
After your placed implant is fully bonded to your jawbone, our dentists will attach an abutment, or connector post, which will later stabilize a crown. Made in our office using CEREC technology, the crown will then be secured on top to complete the process and fully replace your lost tooth.
How Will Dental Implants Benefit Me?
When you have gaps in your smile, it’s natural to start comparing restorative solutions. Should you choose a form of dentures or are dental implants what you want for the long term? Our team of dentists can help you decide by conducting an oral exam and listening to your concerns.
Both dentures and implants are perfectly acceptable choices and each have unique benefits of their own. Dental implants, for instance, are not removable which means they don’t require any soaking liquid at night or special cleanser.
Dental implants can also offer you these benefits:
- The look and feel of natural teeth
- Permanent stability
- Unrestricted diet; no need to avoid certain foods that are hard to chew or sticky
- Healthy jawbone stimulation which reduces risk for facial collapse
- No adhesives needed
- Can last a lifetime with proper oral hygiene and teeth cleanings
